Exploration & Production,Total E&P
Indonesie, Balikpapan. Junior Pipeline Engineer.
2001: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical
Engineering – University of Indonesia.
Seniority in the Group: 2 years. He wants
to specialize in pipeline technology and
wishes to remain in his current division
in order to achieve his goal.
Working in Indonesia
for a multinational company.
I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in
my home country at the University of Indonesia.
I then worked at a local petrochemical company
for three years. Total retained my job application
in 2004 due to my professional background
and my local field knowledge. I had first
sent my CV by regular mail but I did not
get any response. I then applied via Internet
and two days later received an answer. I
was hired four months later, after several
interviews with local supervisors and the
Parisian Exploration Production Division’s
directors.
I was looking to work in a multinational
company where I could increase my knowledge
and specialize in my field of expertise.
A multinational company such as Total allows
me to meet people from other countries and
other educational backgrounds, which was
very much in line with my personal and professional
expectations.
Specializing in a particular field of expertise.
I currently work in a department comprising
permanent employees and some contract personnel.
I am the only Junior Pipeline Engineer in
my team, but have to work in liaison with
other departments, as well as local and
foreign experts. I correspond with headquarters
in Paris as required, in order to follow-up
on my projects’ implementation. As
part of my duties, I provide my professional
assessment on developing projects. I also
do project management and assure that deadlines
are met. My goal is to continue increasing
my Pipeline Engineer expertise in order
to become a Senior Engineer and truly specialize
in my initial field of work.
Working in a team-based
environment.
I have attended several integration programs
since I joined Total. These programs can
last from a week, like the Induction Program,
to up to two weeks, like the Total Together
Program. The main core of these initiatives
is to encourage and facilitate information
sharing among the Company’s departments
and with other partners through information
and knowledge management workshops. All
of the different sessions alternate with
outdoor and social activities that allow
employees to come together and meet each
other.
I believe that Total provides its employees
with great human resources and professional
growth opportunities, including training
and good career advice. It is also a company
where newcomers can considerably enhance
their technical knowledge and professional
experience. It provides a good visibility
that adds to a person’s career in
a very positive way. I highly recommend
that newcomers apply over the Internet.
Total is a company suited to building a
long-term, multinational career.
