Gaëlle de CREE
Belgian citizen
Total. Risk-Management Assistant, Crude-Oil
Operations, Brussels, Belgium.
Qualified in Executive Secretarial Services
at the Institut Supérieur Economique
de Secrétariat in Brussels.
Started out as an Executive Assistant before
moving into an operational risk-management
job at the Crude-Oil Coordination Office.
When I was about to graduate, Petrofina
(at the time), sent me an application form,
called me in for a set of aptitude tests,
and hired me.
I started out in Brussels in 1999, not long
after Total and Fina merged. I was an Executive
Assistant in the Finance and Management-Control
Office which came directly under International
Headquarters in Paris. Then I moved to Executive
Assistant positions with the Eurotrafic
Fleet Cards Office which comes under Marketing
Development in Paris, and then to Career
Management.
So I had quite a few changes in quite a
short time. That was mainly because of the
Total-Fina and TotalFina-Elf mergers, which
involved moving a number of offices from
Brussels back to Paris.
Changing branches.
Then they asked me if I wanted to switch
to Refining and do something different.
It was a real challenge: it was a more operational
job in a completely new universe. And I
jumped at it.
So now I’m in Risk Management at Crude-Oil
Operations. I monitor crude-oil supply,
from vessel chartering to unloading, plus
the associated billing, for the Donges refinery
near Saint Nazaire, in France, and for the
Rome refinery in Italy. That involves liaising
with people in Brussels, Paris, Geneva and
at the refineries.
It’s still all new to me. It’s
an opportunity, and it’s a new set
of responsibilities. I hope it provides
a foothold for further career development.
The missions are very complex and the stakes
are high, so you learn a lot.
Eventually, I’d like to continue my
career development in Logistics. My experience
has given me a clear picture of the Group’s
different branches and business lines, so
I’d be happy to consider a move in
any direction.
